Sri Siksastakam

After I composed the music for Ceto darpanam for the Radha Govinda album; I thought it could be wonderful to gradually compose different melodies suitable for all of the unique verses written by Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu.  These verses are the key element in our Gaudiya sampradaya because within them the process and developement of love for Krishna is poetically described.  Previously some musicians composed this type of opus in one song that contained all eight verses, without considering that each verse has a different metric measurement.  Consequently, the syllables didn’t fit properly and the singing couldn´t flow smoothly. Meditating on the importance of this fundamental opus; I took shelter of Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu in need of inspiration that would dignify these essential texts.  Gradually, in one small room of the ashram where I was residing in Vrindavan;  I composed different melodies over a span of two years, making sure that they were established before beginning the recording process.  I took this time to be confident that the melodies would be pleasing to the Vaisnavas, as these slokas given by Lord Chaitanya are the essence of our Krishna consciousness.  Involved in the work were my best friends, who out of love and devotion participated without material interest.  Each of them composed their own melodies and arrangements that corresponded to their instruments.  The result of this collaboration is an opus of profound love and devotion based upon the Sankirtan movement, the congregational chanting of the maha mantra Hare Krishna, established by Lord Chaitanya Mahaprabhu.
